Turn off the preservation lock in the MS tenant.

Hello,

I have a retention policy for SharePoint sites that retains the data and it has the preservation locked enabled, it prevents us from deleting data in those sites and even for any newly created sites in the tenant that is even does not have the preservation policy enabled.

Is there a way to turn it off or to temporarily disable it

Thanks,

Joe

Dear Joe Saad,

You will need to modify the retention policy associated with the SharePoint sites to turn off the preservation lock in your Microsoft tenant:

1. Go to the Microsoft 365 compliance center and sign in with your admin credentials.

2. Click on "Policies" and then "Retention" from the left-hand menu.

3. Select the retention policy that is associated with the SharePoint sites you want to modify.

4. Click on "Edit" to modify the policy.

5. Scroll down to the "Preservation Lock" section and toggle the switch to "Off".

6. Click "Save" to save the changes.

Please note that turning off the preservation lock will allow you to delete data in the SharePoint sites that are associated with the retention policy.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! Have a great day.

Sincerely,

Hello,

I tried, that, but did not get the option to turn off the preservation lock, I tried using PS command as well, but I was told that the policy is restrictive and cannot be disabled

Is there a way that MS support can disable it from their end ?

Thanks,

Joe
