Transferring ownership of a shared OneDrive folder

Hi, I need help with how to transfer the ownership of a OneDrive folder I created to someone else in the team using the folder. Multiple other people have edit rights to the folder.

Is there a way to do so, or does the other team member has to create his own, new shared folder and go through the hassle of inviting the other team members again to join the shared folder?

hi sebastian,

in onedrive for business, we can give the owner’s permissions for a folder to other users, and we will remain the owner of the onedrive for business library.

here are the steps to share a folder with the owner’s permissions:
1. right click the folder, and then click share > shared with > advanced.
2. click stop inheriting permissions, and then click grant permissions.
3. input the user name and select full control as the permission level.
 

meanwhile, i’d like to explain that onedrive for business is mainly for personal use. for better collaboration with your team members, i would suggest you use a sharepoint team site library.

Hi Jiaxing,

I knew about the feature you described, but it is different from what I want to accomplish. My goal is to be not the Owner of the shared folder anymore. I change positions and want to hand the folder over to a colleague taking over. I do not need access to the folder anymore.

thanks for your clarification.

if we don’t need to access the folder anymore and would like to transfer ownership to others, we can grant the full control permission to other users as jiaxing mentioned above and then remove our own full control permission for this folder as below:

1. select the folder and click the ellipsis.


2. click share > shared with > advanced > permission.
3. select your account > remove user permissions > ok.
