Table row is blue background color

I add a row to a table, and the new row has a blue background. It is dark blue at first, then turns to a pale blue when I click within a cell. I tried tables>table styles>shading, and set it to no fill, but it remains blue. I tried setting the color to red just to see if the background would then go to red, but instead the bottom gridline only turns red, not the background color, which remains blue.

Is your installation of Office 2011 fully updated? It should be at version 14.7.2 as of this month.

Once you confirm/update, run Apple's Disk Utility to repair disk permissions then Restart your Mac. If the behavior persists please provide any additional details such as whether this happens in other tables and/or other documents. It would be helpful if you'd provide screen shots... a shared file saved to a cloud such as OneDrive or Dropbox would be even better. Provide a link to the file in a message here. It doesn't sound like it has anything to do with the Highlight color used by the OS for selected content which would not be retained for the row unless the row is selected.
