Stop Word from "Match case" as default in Find

My version of Microsoft 365 Word recently began to default to "Match case" whenever I execute a Find command. I uncheck the Match case box, do the search, eventually leave Word, and the next time I start it up, to borrow from The Shining, "it's baaack."

Is there a way short of modifying the registry to make the default Find option to be don't match case? If not, and someone could share the registry fix, I'd appreciate it.

Version 2003, Build 12624.20466

Is this a wildcard Find & Replace? In that case, "Match case" will be in effect (and greyed out).

Thanks for the question, Stefan. My question applies to a standard Find request (no wildcards involved) and I'm asking about "Match case" being ON by default (not grayed out) and trying to learn how to turn that off.

Try the following: Make sure that only one Word window is open. Display the Find dialog box and click the More button to see all options. Deselect "Match case" and type anything at all in the "Find what" box. Press the Find Next button which should result in a message saying that nothing has been found. Close the Find dialog box and restart Word. Does that leave the "Match case" option cleared?
