Send to OneNote and insert as printout does not work anymore for OneNote 2016 and 365 respectively

Hi,

I have a Surface Pro 6 with Windows 10 Pro and Microsoft 365 Family installed. Since the last Office Update (current version 2004) I am no longer able to send documents via Send to OneNote to OneNote 2016. The function always starts OneNote for Windows 10. There is another printer installed, named "Send to OneNote for Windows 10". So I have two printers for the Windows 10 OneNote App and no printer for OneNote 2016.

When I try to insert a document as printout directly in OneNote 2016, I receive an error message that the printer driver is not installed properly. 

I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling office as well as the online repair option. 

Nothing seems to work and I am wondering if this is a bug in the current office version (monthly channel). Therefore, I would kindly ask a Microsoft moderator to look into this.

Before the reintegration for OneNote 2016 into Microsoft 365 everything worked fine.

Hi Yoshi,
I'm seeing the same behavior - both printers point to the app version. I will check with my contacts in OneNote and find out what is going on.

Another user found the solution
:
[Settings]-[Device]-[Printer and Scanner]
Send to OneNote > Management > Printer Properties > Advanced Tab (if you have two OneNote printers, you can change either one)
In the Driver section, replace the Microsoft Software Printer Driver with Send to Microsoft OneNote 16 Driver.

Dear Diane,

Thank you very much for this workaround.

When I change the printer driver to OneNote 2016 it opens both Apps OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote 2016. And I just need to cancel the second printout to OneNote for Windows 10.

However, I am still not able to select a Word from within OneNote 2016 and click "insert as printout". I still get an error message that the printer driver is not properly installed.

I'm still checking on the insert printout error.

I hadn't noticed the two onenotes opening when i tested the printer fix last night but when i saw your message and tested it, it was set back to the default driver so I'm not sure how useful that solution will be long term.
