Search box in microsoft word keeps auto-clearing and wont accept me typing

The search (find) box keeps clearing the words I type inside.

When I start typing, the words or letters disappear automatically after about 2 seconds making it impossible for me to search(find) within a word document.

As Doug Robbins advised, try the Advanced Find dialog. That is also accessed using the drop-down in the Navigation pane. (I agree that Ctrl+H followed by going to the find tab is easier, though.)

Are you using a touchpad? If so, try adjusting its sensitivity.
