scanpst.exe has lost some recent data.

i have run scanpst after outlook said i had errors and running it would fix the problem.  so i did and reimported the data but have lost some recent data.  i have tried it twice (from backup) but it still is same.  when i reimported the data it said that it could not support unicode (and some more,, but don't know any more).

how can i sort out this problem and get my data back?

thanks very much,

Roly

You should NEVER use the .PST inport/export functions from within Outlook, they are broken and have been for a long time, they lose data, and they very often corrupt the Outlook profile in use. Simply Reconnect your old Outlook data file

If the data wasnt in the backup file, when you simply opened that file within Outlook, then it allmost certainly wasnt there in the first place.

If however you opened the backup file within Outlook, and I assume by backup you either mean one created by the Outlook Backup Add-in or simply a copy of the main data file, and you received any err msg then its possible you have a hd problem

this hasn't helped.  i know where my pst is because I have backed it up before.  I have found all psts on my computer and tried all of the large psts, but none of them have the data in it.  the file that has lost the data hasn't been backed up for 6 months and is 20mb bigger than the other files.  there is a folder missing, which I set up a few months ago and this is what made me notice as well as all recent data has gone.  this happened when I ran scanppst.

please can someone help me? thank a lot.

Thats a risk of using scanpst - it finds errors and fixes them and sometimes the fix results in lost data.

Did you open the pst that you ran scanpst on? Use File, Open, Outlook Data file then view it in the folder list.
