Require Outlook Prompt for Password

Hello,

I have a user that wants to require Outlook to prompt for a password; primarily when out of the office. We have looked in the Security settings of the Office 365 profile but these are all greyed out and we cannot chose "Always prompt for login credentials" box.

How can we ensure Outlook issues a password prompt when the user chooses?

Thanks

to narrow down the issue, i’d like to collect more details:
1. what’s the outlook version, outlook 2013 or outlook 2016?
2. the detailed outlook version. start outlook, go to file -> office account -> product information, and then you can see the version number like  below:

3. what kind of email system does he/she use in your working environment, on-premise or windows exchange online?
4. does the issue occur to any other users in your organization?

thanks,
gary zhu

hi tyler,

thanks for your feedback.

from your information, it seems like the issue  is related to the client, so i recommend you ask your it whether he/she has set some   group policies and assigned you the administrator right  for  your own computer. meanwhile, please post on outlook client forum for professional support about client related issues.

i’ve figured out a workaround and you can try it to see if it meets your requirement. you can remove the user’s office credential in credential manager. then when the user opens outlook,  there will be an outlook prompt for password. here are the steps:
1. open “control panel”
2. select “large icons” in “view by”
3. find out “credential manager”, and click it.
4. in the “windows credentials”, find “microsoftoffice1x_datasspi: user’s email address”, and remove it. in my site, i use office 2015, the credential is “microsoftoffice15_datasspi:*** Email address is removed for privacy ***” like  below:

5. open outlook, press the password(do not tick “remember my credentials”) like the following screenshot shows:

6. click “ok”

thanks,
gary
