Recurring Tasks Appear with Wrong Date - MacBook

For 4 months I have been attempting to solve an issue with Recurring Tasks in Outlook.  This issue ONLY appeared after I set-up Outlook on my MacBook. I had no issues when using a PC. The issue can be duplicated in Microsoft To-Do. The MacBook is running the latest IOS and Outlook is also up-to-date.

Issues

  • When I complete a recurring task, the recurring task is duplicated for the same day instead of the next day.  As a result, I have to click the task twice to make it work.

The following image shows 3 tasks that indicate their due date as tomorrow.  Those tasks are correctly listed under the heading TODAY. Tomorrow is also incorrectly listed as Thursday BUT tomorrow is Wednesday.

I have spoken with support and was unable to resolve the issue.  As well, I have also searched online forums for a solution. It appears to me that a server is not in sync. I have checked the MacBook time zone as well as my Office Account to ensure I have the right timezone and everything appears correct.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Steve

Hello Steve,

Windows PC and Mac are different platform. I think that since issue occurs only on Mac device, it may be related to this specific device and Outlook Mac client. To confirm it, may I know your account type? Is it a Microsoft account (like outlook.com), or Office 365 Business online account? Try to login Outlook Web App for it’s the closest client to server. Check if those recurring tasks show the same issue there, also create a new recurring task on Web version just for test and check the result on both Web and Mac clients.

Besides, whether the current version build of Outlook for Mac is 16.33 (20011301)? When you said support, have you tried to reach Outlook Mac dedicated team via Help->Contact Support?

Best Regards,

Anna

Thanks Anna for the response. I'm confirming the following:

  • Current build for Outlook for Mac is 16.33 (20011301)
  • I reached out to Mac support and they were as puzzled as I was. We ran several tests.
  • I currently have two accounts for two business:  1) Hosted through Microsoft; 2) Hosted through Exchange / Office 365.
  • The same issue is appearing with both types of accounts.
  • The same issue is appearing on both the Outlook Web App and the desktop.
  • The issue appears even when creating new recurring tasks.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello Steve,

If convenient, I suggest you temporarily remove one of the impacted accounts like Office 365 account from all desktop, including phone clients. For Office 365 account supports 2-way sync, one subtle change could reflect to all other clients including Outlook Web App. Then create a new normal task and a new recurring task to check the result in Outlook Web App, if issue can be reproduced in this situation, I think issue might related to your account.

If issue can’t be reproduced, temporarily don’t add your account to any other clients. Create a new Outlook profile on Mac, set new profile as default, restart Outlook, it will prompt to add account, add Office 365 account to it, then check if issue exists.

To create a new Outlook Mac profile, you can refer to this article: Manage profiles or identities in Outlook for Mac:

  1. From Finder, go to Applications folder.
  2. Right-click Microsoft Outlook, select Show Package Contents.
  3. Open Contents -> SharedSupport, launch Outlook Profile Manager.
  4. In Manager window, click “+” to add new profile.
  5. Select the created profile, and click gear icon ”Settings” -> Set as Default.

Best Regards,

Anna

Hi Anna,

  • I removed one account from Outlook on the desktop - nothing corrected.
  • I removed an iPhone App called Task Task - nothing corrected.
  • I also removed Microsoft To-Do App from iPhone and iPad - nothing corrected.

I'm trying to carve out time later today which will probably include recreating the profile.  I will keep you posted.

Thanks for the follow-up,

Steve

Hi Anna,

  • I created the new Outlook profile.
  • Also deleted Outlook off of my iPhone
  • Deleted Microsoft To-Do off of MacBook

I'm continuing to test.  At times it seems to work and other times it doesn't.  I will have a better idea tomorrow.

As well, I attempted to use the Beta version of the OWA but it continual crashes in both Safari and Chrome.  The issue doesn't appear when using the classic version.

I'll try to update tomorrow ... currently fighting off a cold and sleeping tonnes,

Steve

Hi Anna,

  • As far as existing recurring tasks, it appears the issue still exists.
  • I'm running some test for new tasks and will report back.  I have tested from within OWA and the latest version of Outlook for the Macbook Pro.

Thanks,

Steve
