Random Drawing with multiple entries and multiple winners.

How do I create a random drawing where I have entrants with multiple entries and will pull multiple winners? The drawing will have somewhere around 100 entrants, and I will pick 20 winners. I can use excel or access.

Data set for example:

name

entries

jon

43

bob

184

chris

191

annie

53

mike

132

I happen to have to do about 100 of these, so if there's anyway to do it all at once, I would appreciate the advice. I will start with a data set like above but with a column that includes which drawing the will be in.

For example (except there will be 100 drawings with 100 names each):

drawing

name

entries

a

val

61

a

megan

82

b

zach

29

b

nate

c

bill

Dear Jay,

Welcome to the forum here.

May I know whether you want to get the result mentioned in Picking a winner at random on Excel w/ multiple entries per - Microsoft Community?

Thanks for the link, but, no, what I need is different because I will be picking multiple winners not just one.

See the linked file here:

You don't say how many you want to draw in each draw, so in cell F1 I've put in a number (20).

The only cells which have formulae in them are highlighted in green:

Am I on the right lines?

Thanks for the reply. This does look like it works, but I have two problems. 1 when I Download the file and click enable, it breaks. 2 I'm unsure of what the formulas are actually doing. Would you be able to explain to me the process here?

To answer the question of the number of winners picked, that will be dynamic. I will have 1 file with about 10,000 rows and three columns. Each of these rows is a unique name ID. Each name ID will have a location and a number of entries, those are the other two rows. There are about 100 locations. I have to do a drawing for each location and I will be picking 20% of the name ids from that location. A Name ID can only win once.

Thanks.

1 when I Download the file and click enable, it breaks.

Can you say more precisely what you mean by 'it breaks'?

What version of Excel do you use?

2 I'm unsure of what the formulas are actually doing. Would you be able to explain to me the process here?

That depends on the answers to the above.
