Query: can't convert to number

Hi

I made query to pull data from another workbook. I had this error "DataFormat.Error: We couldn't convert to Number". I changed the format to"Text" but it is still showing error.

The data source includes number and text. e.g. 111 & 1A1.

Thanks

Hi,

At what stage do you get that error?  I could import that data into Power Query with no error message.

If you go to data --> From other sources --> From Microsoft query --> Excel Files* --> select this file and add the only column avaialable.

you will get below data which shows empty cell for "090A03249" as below (Cell A10)

Note: I am using different PC now which doesn't have "PowerQuery" so I can't get this error message by now. however, I still the same issue using different approach as above.

Hi,

You are correct.  Even I face the same problem with MS Query and I do not have a solution to it.  With Power Query a.k.a Data > Get & Transform in Excel 2016, there is no such problem.

Hi

I am using Excel 2013, that could be the reason.
