PPT says my fonts are unsupported (AAT) but they are .TTF

I am trying to embed Helvetica Light into my presentation. When saving the presentation, PPT informs me that the file type is not supported and claims Helvetica Light is a AAT file when it is in fact a TTF.

Details of the machine and PPT version are:

  • License: Office 365
  • PPT version: 16.34
  • Mac version: 10.14.6 Mojave

Answer
You can thank Apple for this one... Although all of the Helvetica variants are TTFs they are installed as a Collection using Apple's Advanced Typography [AAT] as an aggregate TrueType Collection [TTC]. None of this is recognized outside of the macOS so it is not able to be interpreted for embedding.
