Partner unable to add open license to existing subscription

I have recently taken over administration of a client as their Partner of Record.  The client previously purchased Business Premium licenses directly from the O365 portal but now desires to work with me to provide and administer their subscriptions.

I have attempted to add an additional BP license to their existing subscription (14 BP), however it tells me the key cannot be added (and there are no add-ons utilized by the existing subscription).

Please advise why I cannot:

1. Add this to the existing subscription 

2. OR, add this as a new subscription.

I too am concerned about this question.  

I am a Partner, and when attempting to add an Open License to a client that has purchased Online Licenses (same type : Business Premium), I receive an error when activating the Product Key:  "You cannot redeem this product key based on the subscriptions you currently have."

IF they can be mixed (online and open), why does this give me the error?

to narrow down the issue, i’d like to collect some information:

1. when you mentioned “i have attempted to add an additional bp license to their existing subscription”, are these license the product key or volume licenses?
2. i’d like to collect your tenant information to check it. to protect your privacy, i have sent you a private message to collect them. to access the message, you can follow the steps below:
a) go to the your details section on the right side of the community site.
b) click private messages.
c) click the subject title of the response to read the message.
d) you can reply by using the form in this display. click submit reply.
3. about “however it tells me the key cannot be added”, can you follow the steps below to upload some screenshots of the error message?

(1) click use rich formatting on the bottom of this thread->click insert image as the picture shows.


 
(2) on the pop-up window, click browse to select the screenshot. after it is uploaded, click insert.
