Paid for subscription showing "Unlicensed Product" in Microsoft Word, Excel etc

Please help!

I have a paid for subscription and on one of my 2 computers, MS Word will not work as it says the product is unlicensed.  I am definitely logged in to the correct account.

I really need some help now as I have spent hours trying to work it out with no luck.  I am not an IT person either so if any help could be provided in simple terms it would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi Noma,

Thanks for posting in the community.

According to your description, the Office clients have the activate issue.

Please confirm whether your account have the subscription. You could access www.office.com to check the subscription.

If your account has the subscription, here are the suggestions you could try:

1. Remove the credentials and sign in your account again

Type Credential Manager in the search bar, Click Windows Credentials and remove the credentials related with Office

2. Use the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to fix the activation issue.

3. Deactivate Office and sign in your account to activate Office again.

If the issue still exists, please provide us more information to narrow down the issue.

A full screenshot of the Office version

Click File> Account, take a full screenshot under Product Information (including About Word/Excel)

If you have any updates, please feel free and come back to share with us.

Regards,

George

On the computer where Office fails to work, see if there is some older trial version, or a version of the "Office" app installed. Get rid of all of those products and then try activating your full version (Office 365) again.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I removed an older version.  Then the new version, then re-installed the new version.  Then rebooted and it still comes up with the message "There was a problem checking the subscription status..."  :-(

Hello, thanks for your suggestions.

(1) I have removed the credentials

(2) I have used Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant   and it said it had fixed the issue

(3) I deactivated Office and then signed in again

(4) I uninstalled Office completely then reinstalled and rebooted

But I still get a message that says:

"PRODUCT NOTICE There was a problem checking the subscription status. Please sign in with the Microsoft 365 account this device was activated with".

Which I did, however the message persists?  At least it doesn't say "Unlicensed" at the top anymore though.

I two Microsoft accounts, am trying to log on to the personal one (which is the one I have the subscription for).

Hi Noma,

Thanks for posting back.

1. Clicking the “Change License” button allows the user to change another account to activate Office client. Please share us the result after logging in the personal account.

2. If the above suggestion doesn’t help you. Please try to use the ospp.vbs command to deactivate Office. You could follow the Step 1 to deactivate Office. After that, please try to sign in your account (has the license) to activate Office.

3. You could use the Office uninstall support tool to uninstall Office, then reinstalling it.

If you have any updates, please feel free and come back to share with us.

Regards,

George
