Outlook Crashes When Opening

Outlook crashes when opening, 365, 2019 and 2016. Tried the repair tool and nothing works. Tried rebuilding the email profile, quick repair and online repair, uninstall and reinstall as well. Nothing seems to fix it, will not open in safe mode either.

Hi All,

 

Service Health Dashboard has indicated that issue EX218604 has been resolved as of: Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at 10:35 PM UTC.

 

Further information on what admins were able to see in event viewer for this crash event could have been found here:

Meanwhile, some community members shared a workaround with us, it is: Open a Command Prompt, copy each line, one at a time, paste into the Command prompt and hit Enter. 

 

  1. cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun"
  2. officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12827.20470

 

If you are still experiencing an issue, please let us know as this may indicate either a scoping issue or an independent problem.

This issue was posted to the Service Health Dashboard (SHD) as incident EX218604 Start time: July 16, 2020 12:18 AM. User Impact: Users may experience crashes or may be unable to access Exchange Online via Outlook.

More info: Our analysis indicates that Outlook on the web and mobile clients are unaffected. Users may be able to leverage those protocols as an alternative means to access email and service features while we remediate this problem.

Current status: Our initial review of the available data indicates that recently deployed updates are the likely source of the problem. We're performing an analysis of all recent service updates to isolate the underlying cause of the problem and to determine the most expedient means to restore service.

For affected customers to easily identify the information here, this thread will be closed. We will update to the primary thread below once the issue is resolved or you can obtain the most recent information from SHD.
