Outlook Application Error - 0xc0000142 / Won't start regularly or in /Safe mode

Application appeared to hang while deleting an email.

Restarted application and got this message.

OUTLOOK.EXE - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142).  Click OK to close the application.

I've done two full shut down /power up cycles with same error.

I've tried:  Run Outlook /Safe

Got same error.

Any ideas on how to fix?

Have you checked for updates (in any office program)?

Have you tried doing a quick or online repair? In Settings, go to Apps and locate office. Select it and click Modify then do a quick repair. If they doesn't fix it, try the online repair.

BTW, Which version and build of Outlook are you using? See File, Office Account for the information. Please include the text following the version/build number.

You have the newest build, so its not that. (There was a bug in the build released last march - but you are well past it)

Try the SaRA utility - https://diagnostics.outlook.com/#/
