Opening Old OneNote Files with New Version of OneNote AGAIN

I know I'm not the first to ask, but none of the solutions worked.

I have a buch of very old *.one files and I want to open them with OneNote 2016.

It just drops an error (as below).

How do I access/convert those files?

There are three different OneNote formats:

  1. for OneNote 2003
  2. for OneNote 2007
  3. for OneNote 2010-2016

OneNote 2016 can open format #2 and #3, not #1.

OneNote 2010 or 2013 could open all formats.

The mentioned converter is a myth.

Thank you! I evidently have a 2003 one (although I am pretty sure I had OneNote 2007)

Is there any way to get at those files then? 

It is quite important for me atm.

What do you need?

They are an xml format I believe.

Or maybe they weren't that old?  Thats about when they switched to xml.  Who knows..  Try opening in notepad++ if you just need the data out.

You could search (e.g. on Amazon) for the old Office 2010 Home and Student Edition.
