OneNote Clipper Edge Browser Extension failed to sign-in

Once in while (quite often actually), I would encounter this sign-in failure, when using OneNote Clipper Edge Browser Extension.

Sometimes it work again after a few retry.  Sometimes it just keep failing until I close Edge browser and restart again.

See this screenshot:

I did follow the steps to uninstall OneNote Web Clipper Extension, cleared the history, and reinstalled OneNote WebClipper again.

Problem seem to persist.

Notice that this problem appear randomly.  Most of the time web clipper would work.  But once in a while web clipper would fail.  Sometimes when it fail, it would fail repeatedly, and the only workaround would be to close Edge Browser and restart Edge again.

BTW, the problem seem to persist, even after I've completely reinstalled "fresh, clean, pure" installation of Windows 10.

Sometimes, OneNote Web Clipper would even crash Edge browser.

Hi,

To resolve your concern, we suggest that you perform a clean boot. It will start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. Also, it helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program, an update, or when you run a program in Windows.

Let us know how it goes.

The problem, it turns out, is that OneNote Web Clipper would fail, if I set the Edge setting to "Block 3rd Party Cookies".

If we set that, OneNote Web Clipper would fail miserably, and you wouldn't know this was the cause.

This is a design flaw of OneNote Web Clipper.

Customers should be allowed to "block 3rd party cookies" to protect their privacy from rogue websites.

And this shouldn't have unintended consequences to the unrelated "OneNote Web Clipper".

After changing the setting to "Don't Block Cookie" (this is a workaround), OneNote Web Clipper would work most of the time.  It's still unreliable and sometimes might still fail in some other ways, but at least this problem of "couldn't sign-in" goes away (mostly).

I already did provide such feedback through the feedback tool (before I wrote my previous answer).

Let's just see how long Microsoft takes to solve this issue.
