Hi AngeloKala,

I'm a fellow Microsoft customer and expert user here to help.

Try resetting the OneDrive sync app:

1. Press these two keys on your keyboard at the same time: Windows key and the R key. This will open the Run dialog box on your screen
2. Copy and paste this text into the Run window and press Enter:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

That will reset OneDrive
After a couple of minutes, the OneDrive cloud icon should show in the system tray.

If it doesn’t start, Click on Windows Start, then find OneDrive and start it

I took the advice of JasleS on March 12th to sort out my whole Documents folder being copied 122 times because One Drive couldn't merge the folder.

It appears to have worked but it is taking litrally hours to update, transfer, download and upload over 40,000 documents and 16.5 GB of data.

Such an extreme response or extreme error, whichever way you look at it.

I will click on the Yes or No as to whether it solved my problem when all this syncing is done.....

Has this been addressed? This is quite annoying and troublesome. We have large work group shares with thousands of folders. about every 20th person I sync to the folder shares (1 - 30gb, 1 - 28gb, 1 - 50gb) this problem happens... This is a terrible problem because now I have to spend HOURS searching drives for "folder-COMPUTERNAME" cutting content and pasting it back into its correct folder... Because if I do not..... When the sync finalizes, the sync propagates to the other 40 people in this share!!!! Can someone Please tell me how to fix this or at the very least tell me exactly what is causing this to happen? I have synched folders to over 100 people now and this issue has happened to 3 users... Someone please help.

Hello MS,

I have the same problem now for 6 months, would you like to merge changes? Yes, sorry changes cannot be merged.

Fascinating that this collaboration function of OneDrive (which is the main reason for using it), has seemingly not been tested,,, that well.

I am using a workbook with multiple tabs, it seems once someone live edits another tab in the workbook, the other person working on that workbook gets an error indicating it cannot save changes,  do you want to save a local copy or try and merge changes.

Merging changes never works, as the previous person mentioned, what is the point if there are a lot of causes of this colaboration function just causing more problems than good.

The result is you end up with multiple documents spawned from the same one, all with different updates as everyone branched off when they saved locally.

I am using Office 2016 with Office 365 on latest version, with OneDrive v19.086.0502.0006 (June 4, 2019)

Google docs seems like they might be getting a client back.

Microsoft, you need to fix this, this has gone on too long now!

I will share the workbook with you offline if you need it

Thanks

Will

We are experiencing a similar issue. We get the "couldn't merge changes" but it does not say it created another copy, just a red X on OneDrive icon. The file is saved, we can close it, re-open and the data we added is still there.

The frustrating thing is that it is only happening to one person. Three people use this Sharepoint and are in and out of these Excel files. Only one user gets the "couldn't merge changes". So far, I go in and click the "click to resolve" button and OneDrive syncs and the message goes away.

Hi

I'm pretty new to the one drive but, I've also had difficulties, so I tried something, I turned Autosave off with the file I was having problems merging, I just changed a couple of things and it's worked.  Hopefully this will work for you too

I'm the only one using OneDrive. I'm not in a Workgroup or other collaborative system. I also use a Mac. I have autosave turned off by default.

Have the same problem everyone else is describing.

I use OneDrive so I can have access to my files from my MacBook or my iPad.

I closed OneDrive and restarted to no avail.

This is not what I'm paying for. {sigh}

Thank you for this information...this is exactly what my problem was..a file that I'd converted to Word and the AutoSave was on leaving me with the message that changes couldn't be merged. All good now. Didnt need to restart and update One Drive after all. Thanks again

I have same problem.

I am confused by what onedrive does.   It says couldn't "merge" changes.   merge implies combining two files . . . I thought onedrive would achieve synch by simply overwriting older file w/ newer file.      That is some of the fixes (repair office) don't make sense - isn't this just OS-level operation of overwriting files?

I suddenly have 47 files that won't sync due to this error.
