OneDrive shared folders always open in webbrowser instead of windows explorer

Since yesterday, folders that are shared with me in OneDrive are always opened in the web browser.

Previously, these same shared folders always opened in Windows Explorer.

The fact that the files are only available in the web browser leads to a strong reduction in functionality and is problematic.

I followed the steps in the procedure:


None of which helped or solved the issue.

This issue appears to have started after installation of the new OneDrive version 24.108.0528.0005
A quick fix for this feature bug is appreciated!

Thanks for raising your concerns in Microsoft Community.

 

We are aware of the issue and are working on resolving it. The url files will automatically convert back to folders when the issue is resolved. For now, we recommend accessing shared folders that are in this state on OneDrive.com.

I have the same on our Benefice Parish office windows machine (W10) used by the Parish Administrator and now on my iMac (Sonoma 14.5) in the same office and on MacBook Air (Big Sur 11.7.10). All started in the last two weeks and I have tried everything to get them working. All run Office 365.

The web portal works fine and all the files we share are present on the One Drive we just can't access them via Explorer or Finder.

Tedious to have to upload new files.

The official Microsoft documentation has been updated with a note about this issue. The Microsoft development team has taken note of this issue and Internet shortcuts will be gradually restored to their original files in future updates. There is no effective solution yet, so please wait for the restoration.

Honestly, 2 weeks and still not a solution for this issue? Picked Onedrive for the great functionality of accessing shared folders and documents via File explorer. If this main functionally now coming back to normal, i will have to move to Google Workspace. I ques a lot of users are thinking the same.

Any one know if this problem affecting all types of windows 365 ( private, family, business)? What i read googling around is that the issues seams affecting 365 Family accounts. But haven't seen this information verified from Microsoft yet. Or is this just a way for Microsoft to get family accounts to be moved to more expensive business 365 taking away the functionality of sharing files in file explorer between "family members" aca small businesses using family accounts for up to 5 invites?

Any one here having the same problem with private or business accounts?

This should be an issue with the functionality of OneDrive itself, and we can confirm that both Home and Personal users are experiencing this issue at this time.

The business version is not supported by us, so we can't confirm this.

Is there any update on when this issue will be resolved?

I will likely need to figure out another provider for my cloud storage because of this.
