OneDrive Folders and Files Missing

I recently added new files and folders, less than 30 days old, to my OneDrive - word docs.

They are now completely missing NOT in the Trash, I did not accidentally delete or move them them. They are also not available for Restore via the OneDrive toolset - which shows no activity over the dates between the files being there and then disappearing, tried anyway.

If I open Word I can see the doc in the recents and the file path to the document which confirms they were saved to the cloud.

When I try to open the doc I get the error message: This file has been deleted or is not currently accessible, I am within the 30 day undo.

I am hoping there is some resolution for this as I'm now thinking Cloud storage is not the safe space its sold as and I am missing work.

Hi, Michael HallBZ

Welcome to the Microsoft Community for sharing your issue, I have learnt about the loss of files from your OneDrive folder and I am sorry for your loss. However, since the Microsoft Community only provides technical support for the software and no community member has access to the server's back-end data to help you recover your data, I'll do my best to answer your questions about the software's policies and technical aspects.

I noticed that your files are missing from the Recycle Bin, which unfortunately is the last line of defence for Microsoft settings. When deleting items, you can recover them as long as they remain in the Recycle Bin. However, once they are deleted from the Recycle Bin, they may have been permanently deleted from the client. This is clearly stated in the Microsoft Help article; see: Restore your OneDrive - Microsoft Support

We recommend that you contact OneDrive's support team to help you locate your file data in OneDrive's cloud servers, where they can help you access the data information and view it at a higher level:  https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=528676

Sincerely hope you can retrieve the file data, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hi Allen

Thanks for your reply, the issue is they weren’t ever deleted, I checked the trash as per my original post and tried the restore function. According to Microsoft literature you have 30 days in which to ‘turn back time’.

The telling part

Is I can see the file path for the missing in Word under recent files. I’m guessing you can’t help any further I have now taken the precaution of downloading everything and storing offline. Not ideal.

Michael
