Onedrive file - discarded changes recovery

My question is regarding an excel file saved on my Onedrive.  The file had been saved, but apparently hadn't been synced to the server.  I corrected the syncing issue and received an error that there were two different versions of the file.  I selected the option of discarding changes  - I wasn't quite sure what was going to happen and thought I might be able to undo my choice.  But now the file synced on my Onedrive is the older version and missing changes.

Is there a way to recover the other version of the file or recover the discarded changes?  I've tried looking in the unsaved, temp folders and recycle bins and don't see the file there.  Since the file was not originally synced with onedrive, the version history only has one file.  Am I just out of luck?  I'm using Windows 8 and Office 2016.

Thanks for the help.
