One Drive for Business stuck on "setting up your account..."

Hey,

So recently I got a notification that my personal onedrive (which I use to post my notes and slides on ondrive) is near capacity so I decided I should move my OneNote notebooks to my school  (/"business") account since I get more free storage there. When I tried to make a new notebook on Onenote I got this error saying I need to "check my internet connection" even though I tried multiple times.

I looked around and per someone's suggestion I tried to make a notebook on the online version of Onenote. I tried logging in online on the school account and got this error:

So this probably explains why I couldn't make a new notebook, my onedrive account seems to be not fixed up correctly. Hence I clicked on "go to my account" but there is where my issue lies. On the "onedrive for business" tab that opens, it is trying to get me to configure my account by asking me questions like what I do for the "business" (which is the name of the university I go to), which I can skip. But afterwards I see this message:

and from there I am just stuck on "setting up your account" I have tried this multiple times only to be stuck on this forever. Can someone please help, I need to move to this school account ASAP before I run out of storage and can't take notes anymore.

 Thanks a lot

Hi Pirooz,

Thanks for your query in this community.

Per your issue description, I think your OneDrive for Business account should be stuck at the cloud storage provision stage. Please go to the Office Portal Page and sign in with your Office 365 account which is provided by your school.

Check if you could click on the OneDrive icon in the page, or it's displayed as greyed out and saying we are setting up the OneDrive for you.

In the 1st scenario, the system will help you create an OneDrive cloud storage, and this procedure might take around 5-15mins to complete. But his is influenced by the backend server resources quota. As far as I know, sometimes, it might took 24 hours to finish the whole procedure.

In the 2nd scenario, the OneDrive icon is greyed out. And you already wait for 24 hours with no good. Please reach to your university's Office 365 administrator and report this issue. Since this issue shall be fixed from our backend, please inform him to create a support ticket on this issue.

Please keep us posted if you have any updates.

Regards,

Alex Chen

Hey Alex,

Thank you for your rapid response. I did as you asked and opened the Office portal; however, I don't see a OneDrive icon at all. This is what I see:

Where should I proceed from here. Thanks

Hi Pirooz,

Thanks for your update.

If you didn't see the OneDrive icon on your portal page, it might be your school didn't assign you with the correct subscription and license.

Please sign in with your account to the Subscription page to check if you have the following 2 licenses included in your Office 365 Subscription.

You can also provide us with the screenshot on your subscription, so we can help you identify if you have receive the correct license.

Also I saw your have the SharePoint Online icon in your portal page. Please click on the icon to open the SharePoint page. And if it could be open without issue, change the URL to

contoso-my.sharepoint.com

(The contoso could be your school’s name. )

See if you could access this URL.

Alex Chen

Hey Alex,

Thanks for your help. I went to the subscription and this is what I found:

I can't find the exact two plans you highlighted but there are other SharePoint plans and Office plans. And about the Sharepoint icon, I clicked on it and it seemed to open without a problem. However, after I switched the URL to the one you sent me with "******" instead of "contoso" the page switched back to the same page I got when I wanted to set up my OneNote plan:and of course, it was stuck on "setting up your account" again. This is getting rather frustrating as I only have about .2 GB left on my personal onenote space and would like to switch to the school one (if possible) as soon as possible. Thanks a lot

Hi Pirooz,

Thanks for sharing us with the subscription page.

According to your subscription, you should have full access to the OneDrive for Business, however, since the OneDrive provision procedure has somehow been stopped. It should be fixed by our back end team.

Please inform your colleagues' Office 365 IT administrator of this issue, and ask him to open a support ticket on this OneDrive provision issue. The support agent there has the correct escalation channel and it's the most efficient way to fix such an issue. Sorry for not being able to perform the escalation on our side. Our team has limited resources.

We greatly appreciate your time and understanding.

Regards,

Alex Chen

ask your IT section to run the following powershell command

Request-SPOPersonalSite -UserEmails *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

they might have to install the correct powershell modules but hey ho its all good - done this today on many accounts which were stuck on this holding page - within seconds all now working fine - cheers
