Office 365 - Sync Issue - Error - we can't find the sharepoint site location. please check the location address for typing errors

Hi

I recently moved some folders and files to a sharepoint library and shared with my team.

It works fine in office 365 - online but when i try to sync the documents to my local computer it comes up with an error message "we can't find the sharepoint site location. please check the location address for typing errors"

It's the same issue across all the users in the team who are trying to sync to their local computer. I checked their permission and no issues there

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Regards

Raj

[Moderator Edit: Moved from OneDrive Personal]

Hi Raj,

Based on the error message, try changing the registry key value.

Follow the steps below to change it:

1.Press Windows+R and type regedit in the prompted box.

2.Press Enter to open Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\SignIn

3.Create the following DWORD via clicking Edit>New>DWORD (32-bit) value:

Name:SignInOptions

Type:DWORD

Value:0

4.Reboot the system and retry the OneDrive for Business sync.

If the DWORD SignInOptions has already existed, and the value is 3, change that to 0.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall

your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Edit at your own risk.

Hi Kimi

Many thanks for your reply.

I tried your solution but unfortunately didn't fix the sync issue. I am still getting the same error message. I don't have any issues syncing other document library and it's just playing up with one particular document library.

Raj

Hi Raj,

Thanks for the update.

To clarify the situation, could you provide us the following information?

1.Which OneDrive client you are using? You can refer to Which version of OneDrive am I using?

2.Could you provide us the detailed steps about how you sync with that document library on OneDrive?

3.Does the global admin of your Office 365 account have the same issue?

4.Go to this document library in SharePoint and click Settings>Library Settings>Advanced Settings>Offline Client Availability as below, check you have selected Yes in this column.

5.A screenshot of the OneDrive version. Check it via right clicking OneDrive>Settings>About as below.

Hi Kimi

Here we go

1.Which OneDrive client you are using? You can refer to Which version of OneDrive am I using?

2.Could you provide us the detailed steps about how you sync with that document library on OneDrive?

I go to the document library and click " Sync" which then comes up with below

When I click Sync now I get this following error message

3) Does the global admin of your Office 365 account have the same issue?

Yes

4) 4.Go to this document library in SharePoint and click Settings>Library Settings>Advanced Settings>Offline Client Availability as below, check you have selected Yes in this column.

Checked again and confirm it was already selected "YES"

Please let me know if you need more details and I am happy to furnish them.

Regards

Raj

Hi Raj,

Thanks for the screenshots and sorry for the late response.

The first screenshot shows that you have the new generation of OneDrive sync client, while the problem occurs in the old version of OneDrive for Business based on the sync interface from the second picture.

About the version of OneDrive, refer to Which version of OneDrive am I using? as I mentioned before.

One notable difference is the OneDrive icon showed as below, the left one is the old one which will pop up the same interface when we try to sync a SharePoint document library while the right icon is the new generation one.

I suggest you use the new generation of OneDrive sync client to sync that document library to check whether the outcome.

To sync the SharePoint library with new generation one, you can follow the instruction post in Set SharePoint to sync with the OneDrive sync client part on Enable users to sync SharePoint files with the new OneDrive sync client.

Kimi
