MS Word 2016 Autopopulate fields based on a Drop Down List Content Control” box options

Microsoft Word 2016

I have a word document with 5 controls.  In the first control which is a “Drop Down List Content Control” box named “MBAC Name” there are several options, those being as follows: North, South, East, West, Central.  I need when selecting on an option in the “Drop Down List Content Control” box named “MBAC Name”, such as “South” that the following “Rich Text Content Control” boxes named “MBAC Representative”, “Address”, “Telephone Number”, and “Email“ to automatically populate with predefined text.  How would I go about doing this?

Hi,

There are a number of ways, none of which is simple. The strongest method is to used a mapped content control and copy it. The value will be the same throughout the document. I will explain that more in my next post.

Another method is to bookmark the Content Control and use a Cross-Reference. This is imperfect because the cross-reference field does not automatically update; it must be updated manually or by some other action.

Mapped Content Controls are explained on another of Greg Maxey's pages:

Mapping them yourself can be done but is not simple. I never do it. I use one of these two free tools available from Word MVPs Greg Maxey and Graham Mayor.
