ms word 2007 cannot open file doc/docx

I want to ask,,,my  ms word 2007  can not open the doc or docx file, either double click or via the open dialog box but in another computer while they will be able to open doc file .....my  ms word can be used to type ..... please help me .... thank you

What happens when you try to open a document by either method?
