Microsoft Word for Mac -- help menu issues

When I open the Microsoft Word App, I am unable to use the app.


Whenever I mouse over any item in the help menu in Word on Mac the extension of the menu shows up in my screen, and if I move the mouse in any direction to get there the help menu disappears, so I can't click on it at all. This has persisted across reboots of the app and of the computer, and I am running the most recent version of Word as indicated by the Microsoft Auto-Update tool.

No reflection on you but the way Microsoft is doing things most recent could mean any of more than a dozen permutations of Office editions & macOS, each with their own considerations.

Please provide specifics as indicated in:

  • Word> About Microsoft Word - Version Number & type of License

  • > About This Mac - Version Number

A screen shot of the document window illustrating the problem may be helpful as well. The simplest method is to set the window then use the macOS keyboard shortcut Shift+Control+Command+3 which capture the screen to the Clipboard then Paste into your reply. The pasted image can be scaled down using its lower right corner.
