Hi emmie

It has only been with recently created documents and previously saved documents appear to be OK. I have downloaded the latest Microsoft Office (Microsoft_Office_16.32.19120802) and still have the same response with these new documents. These are business documents that I need to edit and not have to recreate

Thanks

Paul

Thanks for clarifying the issue, Paul.

The error you are encountering could be a file corruption error. But, here's the official link to help you open your document after the said issue:

Judging from the error message, I am thinking someone tacked a word document file extension onto a picture file.

Try this: In Finder, rename the file to Marchese Close.bmp

Then use the Insert > Picture > From File feature of Word to display the picture. My hunch is the file is really a picture, not a word process document.

Be sure to include the version number and OS version when asking your question.

Hi Jim

The BMP at the end is a file name for the report. I tried your suggestion with no positive result.

Thanks for the suggestion

Hi Paul,

I am an independent advisor and a Mac and Office user like you, and I would be happy to help you out with this.

Have you added any third-party plugins or add-ons recently to Word, before the problem with opening files started to occur?

Is it consistent? For example, if you create a new Word document and just save a new test file, does that file also display the errors when you open it?

If there is no sensitive data in an affected file, would you be willing to upload it somewhere for us to try to troubleshoot it further? Or if you can create a test file (if it is a problem with all new files), would you be able to share that with us?

There are several other troubleshooting suggestions on the following website, however we would like to work with you to resolve this specific issue.

It also wouldn't hurt to run a Disk Repair on your Mac either.

From Finder, go to the Go menu and click on Utilities. (Or press Shift+Cmd+U). Open Disk Utility. Select your main system disk (usually Macintosh HD) and click the "First Aid" button on the top.

It will prompt, "Would you like to run First Aid on <hard drive>?" First Aid will check the volume for errors. It will then repair the volume if necessary.
