Hello Shanemoodley, Welcome to Microsoft Community. I am a Microsoft user just like you, I hope you are doing well. Sorry for this inconvenience. Have you tried using a different browser to check if you will receive code? Have you tried using another verification method connected to your account? "If yes, check your junk email folder for a message from a Microsoft account, and use the code sent to you. Valid verification codes come from an @accountprotection.microsoft.com email address. Mark @accountprotection.microsoft.com as a trusted sender to receive your verification code in your inbox. >> Does your alternate email address end in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com? If so, you're using one Microsoft account to verify another Microsoft account. This can make it tricky to keep track of which one you're signed in to. When you sign in to the second account (to get the code sent to that email), most browsers automatically sign you out of the first account (the one that's actually requesting the code). To get your verification code: 1. Using a browser in privacy mode, sign in with the first account. This lets you stay signed in to both accounts at the same time. 2. When you're prompted to enter the verification code that was sent to your alternate email address, don't close the browser window. 3. Open a new window in privacy mode. Ctrl + Shift + P is the shortcut for InPrivate Browsing in Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. If you're using a different browser, check that browser's help for info about privacy mode. 4. In the new window, sign in to your alternate email account and look for the message from the Microsoft account team. Copy or write down the verification code from the message. 5. Return to the window that is asking you for the verification code. Enter the code and follow the instructions". The information above were obtained from Microsoft support article: https://support.microsoft.com/help/409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48 Please let me know if you need more assistance. Hi Raymond
Thank you for your prompt response.
The issue is simply that the alternative format to receive the code is a phone number ending with 81 - i do not have such a phone number.
I am also automatically signed in but i keep receiving messages to authenticate my account - as soon as i try to, i do not get the code - no email from microsoft at all.
I don't have any other email address...
Sorry if i am not being totally clear - i just think that this account is hacked.

Shanemoodley, sorry for the inconvenience. If your verification method is not associated with the account, I recommend you try submitting Account Recovery Form where you will need to provide answers to questions only the owner of the account will be able to answer. Use link attached: https://account.live.com/acsr "After you submit the form, you will receive the results of your recovery request at the working email address you provided at the beginning of the form within 24 hours. Your next steps depend on whether we could verify your account: If it is "We could not verify your account", you will need to keep trying as many times as you want, up to two times per day. If it is "We verified your account", Microsoft will use the same working email to send you instructions for how to sign back into your account". Helpful tips 1. Answer as many questions as possible. If you’re not sure, guessing is ok — wrong answers don’t count against you. When you get to a question that lets you “add more," fill in as much information as you are able. 2. Use the information you created when you created your account or when it was last updated. 3. You can submit Account Recovery Form up to two times per day from a computer that you use regularly. 4. You will be asked to list the email addresses you have used recently and the subject lines of emails you have recently received. Ask family, friends, or business contacts for help in verifying their email addresses and for the subject lines of the last three emails they sent you. 5. Make sure you're using the correct domain for your account, such as hotmail.com, live.com or xbox360.com. Remember that your email address may be country specific. For example, if you created your account in Germany, your domain would probably be "hotmail.de" rather than "hotmail.com". The information above were obtained from Microsoft support article: https://support.microsoft.com/article/b19c02d1-a782-dee6-93c3-dc8113b20c42 Note: the Account Recovery Form can only be used if you do not have two-step verification enabled on your account.

I am having the same issue. Only option is e-mail address. I click on it and it asks me for the code sent in the email but no e-mail shows up. I have checked spam and all folders nothing. I have logged out of the e-mail and back on, nothing. I need to get the bit locker recovery key for the laptop that shows up on the device list.

since you noticed a phone number in your account that is not yours,
Is it possible that your account has been compromised and someone changed the notification email destination mailbox as well, so that the verification code was indeed sent out but to the person whose phone number is there?
