Microsoft Project License for Team members

My organization already has a Microsoft 365 subscription and would like to purchase the project P1 license for project managers.

Do team members (resources working on the day-to-day tasks who are also on our active directory) need the P1 license to give updates on tasks and send in timesheets?

Dear User,

Good day!!

I understand your concern and to my search, I would like to let you know that Microsoft 365 and Office 365 users with E3 and E5 licenses can now mark a task as complete, or update the task progress or “% complete” of a task assigned to them in any project they have permissions to.

Office 365 limited edit access applies to the following families of Office 365 suites and their education and GCC counterparts.

  • Microsoft E3 and Office 365 E3

  • Microsoft E5 and Office 365 E5

Reference: Office 365 User access to Project for the web and Roadmap - Project for the web | Microsoft Learn

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Have a good day!!

Best Regards,

Sophia

Dear Sophia,

Thank you for your feedback.

Does this also imply that the resources can update timesheets information and send timesheets for approval?

Dear User,

Thanks for writing back and updating us. Apologies for the delay in the response.

To my knowledge, the answer is no where they won’t be able to perform the additional task apart from updating the tasks assigned in the project.

Moreover, I will also keep this thread open so that Project MVPs and experts can share their ideas on this.

Appreciate your patience and understanding with us. Have a good day!!

Best Regards,

Sophia

When you use the term "timesheets", it sounds like you are using either Project Online or Microsoft Project Server. For both of these tools, the web-based user interface (named Project Web App) includes a Timesheet page in which team members can enter their Actual Work on a daily basis on project tasks, and then submit their progress to their project managers. If this is the case, then YES, your team members MUST have a Project Plan 1 license to be able to access Project Web App as a team member. Hope this helps.
