Microsoft Outlook won't remember my password

I get a pop-up screen every time I open outlook asking me to re-enter my password.

I tick the 'Remember my credentials' - it makes no difference.

Help - please

Hi,

There are a few reasons why Outlook is not able to remember your password. For us to narrow it down, kindly answer the questions listed below:

  • Are you using a Windows or a Mac computer?
  • Which version of Outlook are you using?

We'll be waiting for your reply.

I have what I think is the same, or a very similar problem.  This started a few days ago for no reason when opening outlook.  I can now cause the following dialogue to pop-up for example by downloading images in an email, or in fact, just opening an email that contains graphics.

However, I don't like entering my password into dialogue boxes that pop up seemingly at random, so I hit Cancel, or close the window.  I then get an the following "need password" message at the bottom of the outlook window.

Simply clicking on this causes outlook to use its stored password, re-connect and synchronize without having to enter a password.  Once re-connected, I can "send-receive all" email without a problem.

Note I am using Windows10 and Outlook 2016, both fully up-to-date.

This prompt appears if the password saved in your Outlook is not being recognized by the server. Did you change the password of your email address?

I have not changed my Microsoft, or email password in some time.   My stored password is clearly being recognized, because I have never responded to this prompt with a password, but I am still connecting and receiving and sending email.

Regarding the link to "Outlook issues after connecting Outlook to Outlook.com" are you suggesting I set-up two step verification under "Repeated credential prompts in Outlook 2016 or Outlook 2013 for Outlook.com connected accounts [WORKAROUND]"?  I have never used two step authentication in the past.

If you've read the article that we have provided. One reason why this prompt keeps on appearing is that if you have connected your Outlook 2016 account with Outlook.com which is through a web browser. Did you setup your email account on Outlook.com?

Keep us posted and we will be glad to assist you further.

No, I connected from Outlook.  However, I did look at one of the other articles (Outlook.com email account appears as "outlook_[long series of letters and numbers]@outlook.com" in Outlook for Windows [WORKAROUND]), as I also had this problem and following the workaround seemed to fix the password issue as well.  The suggested fix was to remove my account from Outlook, make sure my original *** Email address is removed for privacy *** email address was my primary alias and then reconnect outlook using this address.

How are you meant to follow the instructions? :

Outlook 2013 The Prevent saving credentials for Basic Authentication policy setting is located in the Microsoft Outlook 2013\Account Settings\E-mail section of the Outlook 2013 Group Policy template. If this policy is enabled, the DisableBasicAuthSavedCreds value is written to the following Windows registry location on the workstation:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\RPC

Are there any written in plain English? I.e. File> Select account > Account Settings > Account Settings > ?????

I cannot understand or follow these - sorry.
