Microsoft Office printing off the page

I bought Office Home & Student 2021 on April 26th. When I print in Word or Excel the preview looks fine but when it prints the text is all over on the left hand side of the page and some of it off the page. It also slows the printer down to one page a minute instead of the usual 25 -30 page/min. This is the only app that does this. How do I correct it or is it a fault with Microsoft Office. Please help

Dear Peadarotti3,

Thanks for visiting Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are printing out incorrectly formatted documents and that the printer is slowing down. What brand of printer are you using?

You can open the Word file you want to print, click File - Print - select Microsoft print to PDF, see if the formatting problem still occurs.

You can also try to print in the browser.

You can try printing the document using another application to see if the problem is only with the Office software. Before printing, it is recommended that you use the print preview feature to see the layout of what you are printing. This can help you spot problems that may be causing text to be offset. Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. You can go to the printer manufacturer's website to find the latest driver and install it.

Looking forward to your reply.

Best regards

My printer is an Epson WF-7515.   The fault is not with the printer, it prints all other applications ok.

I could not find “Print to PDF”  but I did save to pdf and the printer printed that ok

However, I do not want to have to save to PDF each time before I print, that is too much hassle

I also down-loaded a Word and Calc App called “Libra”.  It prints documents in both Word and Calc perfectly

The print preview in Microsoft Office, for both Word and Excel, shows the text centralised as normal.   But it does not print as shown on the preview.

If this is not resolved I would like a refund as I cannot use your product as it is at the moment

You can open the file you want to print by clicking on File in the upper left corner.

Click on Print and then select Microsoft print to PDF.

You say that you have no problem previewing in Word and Excel, but the printout preview looks different, which suggests that it is not a problem with the Word and Excel applications, but should be a problem with the printer settings, and you can contact your printer's support staff for more help.

Best regards

Miyeon,

The printout preview is perfect but when I press print it prints as shown in the image below.

I printed to PDF and that PDF printed ok. However I do not want to have to convert every document to a PDF in order to print it. That is ridiculous and is extra unnecessary hassle in my busy work day which I have never had to do before

and,

just as important, every PDF is using twelve times the amount of memory than an ordinary word file.

This whole problem started the minute I downloaded your Microsoft Office. The printer worked perfectly up until then so it is not the printer fault.

I need to get your program working and be able to print direct from Word and Excel otherwise I will have to delete your program and I expect a corporation as big as Microsoft to do the right thing and refund my money.

Since PDFs print properly from your PDF viewer, something is wrong with the communication between Word and the printer.

If you access printer settings from within Word, by using the Printer Properties link on the File > Print backstage view, does that provide any clues?

Also, in Word, verify that "Normal" is selected in the "Multiple pages" drop down in the Page Setup dialog box.

You mentioned that the print preview is perfect, print to PDF, the PDF prints normally, that is not a problem with Word and Excel, it should be some of your printer settings so that the paper and the content of the print can not be perfectly adapted. You can check your printer settings, and then contact the printer manufacturer to see if there is a problem with your printer.

Stefan,

"Normal" is selected in the "Multiple pages" option

When I go into "Print > Printer Properties" the only options I get are -

"Orientation" -

"Paper Size" -

"Print on both sides" and

"paper quality"

I see no option for "Print backstage view"

I don't know what else to try to rectify this problem. It looks like I'll have to uninstall Microsoft Office and hope that the computer and printer go back to functioning normally as they were before I downloaded this defective program.

The "Print backstage view" is the page shown in Stefan's first screen shot. The "backstage" is what you get when you click File. If you then click Print, you get this view. You can also access it with Ctrl+P.

The so-called Backstage is the view in the Office applications (on Windows) that display if you click the File tab, as Suzanne wrote.

If the printer properties are set as expected, then I see no simple explanation for the inconsistencies you are seeing in Word. In theory, updating the printer driver may make a difference, of course (but you may have tried that already).

Stefan & Suzanne,

Thanks for your interest in my problem.

I had not heard of the word "Backstage" being used in that context. Whatever happened to the simple "Menu" ?

I checked my "Print Backstage"/Menu and it tells me nothing that I haven't tried several times.

I had a local computer professional come to have a look at my computer/printer setup today and she had no answer.

I still have the original printer CD with the driver on it and I reloaded it but to no avail.

I also tried to download the driver from the Epson website but they say my printer is old and they don't support it.

I still downloaded their Universal driver, but again to no avail.

Tonight I borrowed another printer, a Canon, and connected it up. It printed both Microsoft Word and Excel documents perfectly.

So it would seem that the instructions between Microsoft Office on my computer and my Epson printer are corrupt in some way. I still blame Microsoft for introducing the corruption in the first place.

Now, has anyone got any ideas where to go next ?
