Microsoft Office Font Styling Issues

How would I make my font in Word look as clear as Google Docs? I have tried adjusting ClearType, but to no avail.

When I select the font from the Font dialog, the preview seems fine, but it doesn't work when I type.

Hi Mosrod,

Thank you for sharing the experience with us.

To help you do troublesooting, I'd like to confirm information below:

1.From the second screenshot you provided, we can see that you are trying the Arial font. What about if you use other different fonts in Microsoft Word? Do you get the same result?

2.In the original post, seems you are trying to share screenshots to describe the difference of a document between Google Docs and MS Office.

To be honest, I cannot find the significant differences. And I have tested from my side with font Arial:

If it is convenient, could you please share another screenshot to describe the symptom?

3.In Word, please capture a full screenshot of Product Information via File>Account.

Appreciate your time and effort.

Best regards,

Tina

At File | Options | Advanced: Display, clear the check box for "Optimize character positioning for layout rather than readability."

Turning on optimizing character positioning for layout rather than readability doesn't seem to impact anything.

I have experimented with the differences in fonts between Word and was wondering if this was due to ClearType. How would I disable ClearType in Word?

1. Other fonts have this same issue, when they are around the size of 11px.

2. Fonts with 11px or 12px have more noticeable differences than fonts with a larger font.

3.

Hi Mosrod,

Thanks for sharing the details.

I have tested in the same version of Microsoft Word, Google Docs and Notepad, here is my test result. I find the texts display fine on Microsoft Word:

Based on my understanding, ClearType will help to display the texts clearer on document.

If you want to disable it and check the result, you may try following:

Search for ClearType on your PC>Adjust ClearType Text>uncheck the "Turn on ClearType" option, click Next and finish the remaining part.

But if it doesn't make texts disply better in Word, I recommend you still keep the "Turn on ClearType" option enabled.

In Word app, you may also try following:

Go to File>Options>Advanced>Display, clear the option for "Use the subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen">click OK.
