Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac missing the File tab

Not sure why I'm missing the file tab in my workbook.  When I try to add it to ribbon preferences, I only get the Quick Access Toolbar tab, not the Ribbon tab.

The Ribbon tab is missing.  What steps do I need to take to get the File tab added and the Ribbon option to my Preferences?

Below is how I think my preferences should look like.

Thank you

Hi Maggie,

On Office for Mac, the File tab is located on the Menu Bar. Here's a screenshot for your reference:

For your second question, the Ribbon customization menu is only available if you have an Office 365 subscription.

Customize the Ribbon and toolbars in Office for Mac.

If you do have an Office 365 subscription and you're still not seeing the customization option, you're welcome to post a new thread and we will assist you on resolving the issue.

Regards,

Sheen

I have file menu highlighted in pale green. I cut out part of the screenshot so I could fit on the screen without reducing size. the Excel through the window menus belong to "Word" application The  menu and the Flag through the notification menu items belong to the system.

If this is what you see Then you have triggered "Full-Screen" Mode.

To get out of Full-screen Mode, Move mouse/Trackpad Pointer all the way to top of the screen. The main menubar will drift down. Scroll to left and click on the green stop-light button. This will return menu to Normal.
