Microsoft Lists - Add Column not working

Hello Folks,

The Add Column button is not working on Microsoft Lists. In both of the following tries, trying to add a column does nothing.

I can hover on the button, it becomes highlighted, but when clicked, it does nothing.

Add a column menu - again highlighted, but clicking on it does nothing.

I tried this on Edge, Chrome and Firefox. On all three browsers, the result was the same. I am a paid M365 subscriber.

Anyone having a similar issue?

Many thanks!

Tolga

Dear Tolga BALCI,

Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together and try to move in the resolving direction.

I understand your concern and I have tested the behavior with the both existing and new lists in the Microsoft Lists, where I am able to add the new column in the modern experience UI without any issue:

Since you are having the problem in multiple browsers, I also check whether there is any service incident related to your situation but it’s negative as there is no incident related to it.

I would like you to double check whether the same problem happens when you perform the same action in InPrivate or Incognito browser. If yes, then I suggest you raise a support ticket from the Office 365 admin center, where the related team will collect the HAR logs and find out the cause of the problem. Reference: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Note: To create a support ticket, you need to have admin privileges and if you aren’t admin of your Office 365 organization, please contact the admin of creating a new ticket.

As a workaround to create a column in the Microsoft List, please follow the below steps:

Open the List in Microsoft Lists> Settings> List Settings> Scroll down to Column> Click on Create Column> Fill the details as per your requirement and click OK.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Have a good day!!

Best Regards,

Sophia

Hi. I'm having the same issue with list since last month. One of the lists fixed itself for some reason. But now, I'm having the same issue in the new list. It's not just adding a column on my experience. Editing a column name, creating a view, hiding and unhiding columns don't work in the list view on some of my lists. I can however, edit in the list setting. But the changes are not reflecting in the list view.

For hiding and unhiding columns, it keeps loading

For editing column title, as soon as I click save, it says "there was an issue editing the column "columnname", please try again

For creating a column, as soon as I click save, it says "there was an issue creating the column "columnname", please try again

For creating a new view, in my other list I created one and made it a default view but it was not there.

I hope these issues get solved as soon as possible.

Best,

Maine

Hi Sophia,

Thank you - but unfortunately this is not working. First, I'm on M365 Home plan, second, the "Microsoft Lists> Settings> List Settings" is not available on the Home Plan. And finally this does not happen on Business Plan.

Considering that per Microsoft Lists – MSA Preview | Microsoft 365, Lists is currently on Preview stage for the consumers, we will need to wait for General Availability for the issues to be resolved it seems.

Cheers

Hi Maine,

I logged a ticket to support and the answer I got is that "Lists is still on Preview stage for the consumers." I have the following links from Microsoft Support:

Microsoft Lists – MSA Preview | Microsoft 365

Therefore we will need to wait for the General Availability for this to work.

Cheers,

Tolga
