Lines in headers and footers

I have a long document with headers and footers in several sections.  Some of the headers and footers have lines under or above them, and some do not - even within the same section.  I want to know how to edit the headers/footers to remove these lines, or to make them consistent.

I have tried using the Borders tool.  It does add/remove lines, but they are not the same lines.  The header/footer line that I am concerned about is right across the page, at the edge of the header/footer; in contrast, the lines that Borders handles are inside the header/footer space and not all the way across.

Help, please.

Phillro,

Double click in the header space. Select the culprit line and press delete.

The line can be selected if it was drawn using the line tool or if it was added using the Horizontal line option in the paragraph group, Borders drop-down arrow. Only the shape line can be drawn across the page.
