Language Default in Word will not work

I keep changing the default language in Word to English US but it will not remain and it continues to change to various languages such as Dutch, French etc.  each time I do a review for a lengthy document.  Any suggestion where I might dig deeper into Word for a solution that will remain?  I just renewed my purchase to Office (MacBook Air) and have automatic updates.  This has been an ongoing problem though before my renewal.  I am editing a manuscript and is becoming very time consuming.

Any help would be appreciated.
