Please disregard shopping lists consisting of guesswork & assumptions. It has nothing to do with the OS file system or corruption. The encryption algorithms used by the Office software are extremely strong. There is nothing you can do to break password protection without rendering the file unusable.

Your best bet is to keep trying until you manage to remember the correct password.

There are online services which will attempt to open the file for a fee. However, there usually is no guarantee & you're providing your personal information to people who arguably are hackers.
