How to update Office XP on windows 10 computer

I easily installed my legal version of Office XP (excel and word 2002) on my new Dell Windows 10 PC. I can create and save documents easily. However, when I try to open a document in Office XP that was created in a later version of Office, I am unable to do so. It does not start the "conversion" process that occurred when I opened a newer version of an office file on my Windows 7 PC. I am sure I need to install updates to my Office XP since I installed it from the original CD versions of the software that were created years ago. How do I update Office XP on my Windows 10 PC? (I do not want to change to a newer version of Office. I like the old one.)

If you want to open and view documents created in later releases of Microsoft Office that use the XML format, upgrading to a supported release might be your only option. Office XP is not even officially supported on Windows 10.

Many years ago, Microsoft released a compatibility pack for Office XP, you might try installing that to see if it works.

If it doesn't work, then your options are: purchase a new release such as Office 2016; (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/b/office) use the Office Web Apps (free) (https://office.com/webapps) but requires an active Internet connection; or use a third party productivity suite such as Libre Office (free) (https://www.libreoffice.org/download/)

Google Docs (https://docs.google.com/) is another option, but also requires an active Internet connection.

I downloaded your suggested update but to no avail. Guess 15 years is the life of my version of Office! I hate Windows 10 and the newer versions of Office, but no choice, I guess. I can always use it to generate spreadsheets and word documents and use the newer version to open files that other people send me.

Thanks!
