How to stop "Custom Office Templates" folder appearing in documents every time I save something?

Every time I save a Word, Excel, Powerpoint document a "Custom Office Templates" folder appears in my documents. How do I stop this empty folder appearing?

While I would suggest that you just ignore it, if you don't want to see it, right click on it in Windows Explorer and select properties and check the Hidden box under the Attributes section of the dialog.
Hope this helps,

You can change the path to another location in each office program by going to File, Options, Save group and manually entering a folder path for Default Personal Templates Location. You will need to do this in each office program that can save personal templates. If the folder you set is removed or deleted for some reason, the next time you go to save a file, the program will once again create the default 'Custom Office Templates' folder and blank out the custom path in the options dialog instead of re-creating the user specified custom folder. I just set it to my documents folder and be done with it.

Is this a joke? the "hidden" option doesn't do anything. It slightly greys out the folder icon but the folder is still there.

The hidden folder is only greyed out if you've set Windows Explorer to show hidden items. That's an option in Tools > Folder Options > View on Windows 7, or on the View ribbon in Windows 8.1 or 10. If you turn off the option, the hidden folder won't appear at all.

This didn't work for me in Windows10 Office2016, just slightly greyed out the folder but I can still see it. What we want is for Office to stop cluttering up "My Documents" which should be reserved for, well, My Documents. Not stuff MS Office thinks it might need one day if I decide to create a custom office template!

This doesn't really help when you want to solve conflicts in OneDrive sync between two PCs sharing the same Documents folder... or maybe I setup the Documents folder wrong

I have hidden files shown because I want to see them.

I would like for MS Office to save templates in a place that is not my Documents folder, because MS Office templates are not my Documents.  How about letting the user put templates where the user wants them.
