how to open more than 15 workbooks simultaneously in File Explorer

Hi,

I have tried to follow instructions online:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
Name : MultipleInvokePromptMinimum
Type : DWORD
Default : 15 (decimal)

and I changed Data to 16 instead of whatever there was, and got following "outlook":

in:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

I added new KEY

MultipleInvokePromptMinimum:

so total path is:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MultipleInvokePromptMinimum:

and clicked to choose/edit to be as follows:

Name                 Type                     Data

New Value #1     Reg_DWORD       0x00000010 (16)

I have restarted - but still I can open max 15 workbooks at a time. Where do I go wrong???

Answer

Yes, it is still daytime here

I was able to recreate your problem.. Could open 15 sheets in File Explore, 16 or more did not work.

GOOD NEWS!

I found a work around for the problem!

Instead of using File Explorer, go to the File Open dialog inside of Excel and select the files there!  It worked for me, but it did take a while for all of the files to open, it seemed to hang on some files. But they all did open after a few minutes.

Happy dreams.
