How to create a shortcut to an app excel file in sharepoint?

How to create a shortcut to an app excel file in sharepoint? Now the file is opening in the browser.

I changed settings in sharepoint and now if I open the excel file in sharepoint online I open file in app excel (so is great).

But I created a shortcut in desktop and if I open the shortcut I open file in sharepoint online (so is no good).

Per your description, it seems that you change some settings and can open the SharePoint file directly to Office desktop app, but now you create a shortcut in desktop and may I know what’s meaning of “if I open the shortcut I open file in sharepoint online”? 

To better understand your scenario, could you please tell us the exact purpose you want? We will try our best to see if there has any workaround for you.

Hi,

If I create a shortcut on my desktop(link to file from sharepoint) , excel starts in my browser.

If I turn on a file in sharepoint, it turns on the file in app Excel.

I would like to have file on my desktop and the file open in app Excel.

Thanks for posting back, regarding to your concern, my understanding is you would like to open the SharePoint file in the desktop, and the file will open in Excel app instead of browsers. May I know this is the exact requirement?

If so, actually based on my experience, if you are willing to try, I think it’s better to use OneDirve sync feature, you can go to SharePoint document library and click Sync button and sign in OneDrive to sync the files in File Explorer, then you can check whether you can open the files in app not online.
