how to change single page orientation.

i cant find the page setup dialog launcher on my ms word, therefore i cant change a particular page to landscape as all the other pages will change. as a result of this , i cant also apply section breaks. i have tried everything and i'm approaching my deadline. i am using a HP window 11 laptop.

Hello Ogechi J, I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself. If you're unable to find the Page Setup dialog launcher in Microsoft Word and need to change the orientation of a single page, you can follow these steps: 1. Select the Page: Click at the beginning of the page that you want to change the orientation for. If it's just one page, you can place your cursor at the beginning of the text on that page. 2. Insert Section Break: - Go to the "Layout" or "Page Layout" tab on the ribbon (the exact wording might vary depending on your version of Word). - Look for the "Breaks" option. Click on it. - Choose "Next Page" under the "Section Breaks" category. 3. Navigate to the Section: - After inserting the section break, you may notice that your document now has multiple sections. - Click at the beginning of the section you want to change (the one where you want a different orientation). 4. Change Page Orientation: - Go to the "Layout" or "Page Layout" tab again. - Look for the "Orientation" option (it usually has icons for portrait and landscape orientation). - Click on either "Portrait" or "Landscape" depending on your needs. This way, you've created different sections in your document, and you can change the page orientation for each section independently. The rest of your document will remain unaffected. Remember that the steps might vary slightly depending on your version of Microsoft Word, but the basic process remains the same. Best Regards, Shalom

Are you using the desktop application or Word Online in a browser?

If you are not seeing the Ribbon, it may be hidden. Right-click on the end of the Quick Access Toolbar and click on Collapse the Ribbon to remove the check.

You are also, I suspect, not using the desktop application, but rather the inferior version of Word known as Word Online or Word for the Web. That does not have these controls and does not let you do this. It does not have that dialog launcher.

This is easy to have happen even if you have the desktop application installed.

I know you told Suzanne that you were using the desktop app.

Here is what the Home tab of the Ribbon looks like in the Online Word:

Here is the Layout Tab, without any dialog launcher for Page Layout.

In the Online version of Word, you can't change the orientation for just one page, because you can't insert the required section breaks.

A possible workaround is to create separate documents, with the desired orientation, and then convert the documents, individually, to PDFs. Finally merge the PDFs using a free PDF editor.

Of course, this won't be convenient in the long run, if you need to create many documents with mixed page orientation. You'll need a more capable word processing program.

Then you are using the Online version, not the desktop application.

If you can open/edit in the desktop application, you will get the dialog you seek. If you stay within the online program, then Stefan has given you a workaround, even if not one that you would like using.

See Compare Word features on different platforms - Office Support.

  • These programs are all named Word and they are all created and published by Microsoft.

  • They all can edit the same document files that have the same file structure. Some of the programs have no control over some of the document structures.

  • But, they are different programs with different features and controls.

As of November, 2023, the most powerful one of these, with the most features, is the Windows desktop application from Microsoft 365. I do not expect that to change. The perpetual license version Word 2021 is very close as far as features but does not receive new features as added.

The Macintosh desktop application is second with number of features. The things available in the Windows version not yet on the Mac version include Content Controls, Building Blocks, UserForms, and ActiveX. It can use, but cannot create, or modify most Content Controls. AutoText is a Building Block that the Mac can and does use.

The browser version of Word – Word Online – has a Transcribe feature that has recently been added to the Windows desktop version of Microsoft 365’s Word. It also has the ability to Export to PowerPoint (although not that usefully). Otherwise, the browser version has far fewer features and editing in it has been reported to mess up automatic numbering. Chromebooks use a version of this or of the Android mobile app. Differences between using a document in the browser and in the Word desktop application. I would use this for note taking and for quick viewing/printing, but not for editing. Especially not for editing long or complex documents. The ability to mess these up is too high.

The mobile applications (Android/IOS, etc.) vary somewhat but have far fewer features. I would use them for note taking and for quick viewing/printing, but not for editing. Especially not for editing long or complex documents. What you can do in the Microsoft 365 apps on mobile devices with a Microsoft 365 subscription

Note that the statements about capabilities and usefulness are my opinions, not anything from Microsoft.
