How to access a shared OneNote Notebook from the desktop app and not the web app

Let’s try isolating this concern so we can identify the possible cause why the option to open the shared notebook in the OneNote desktop version isn’t available.

• Can you confirm the Windows version running on your device? See this article for the steps to check this.
• Do you have an installed OneNote application? If so, is it the OneNote 2016?
• Which Office version is installed on your PC? See this: About Office: What version of Office am I using?
• Do you still unable to see the option even when using another web browser?

I have version 1803. Yes, I have OneNote 2016 installed. I have MS Office 365 ProPlus, version 1812. I tried this on MS Edge and it doesn't give me the option, it looks the same as the photo I have in the original post.

• Use another Microsoft account and open OneNote via browser to check if the Open in OneNote option will appear.
• Try using another device and open the shared OneNote notebook. Then, see if the option will be available already.

Looking at the URL from your screenshot

one can see that you don't have Edit rights. So no Open in OneNote.

After looking at the permissions, it said I can edit and it allows me to edit on the browser, so its not that.

But I don't know what happened, but it let me open it with the desktop app now!
