How do I save word documents to my computer?

For some reason, every time I hit save as a word doc, instead it redirects me to OneDrive then opens up the word doc again on this new tab. On this new tab, it also does not let me download it. There is no way that I can find to download the word document. Weirdly, it works fine when saving PDFs in the same manner.

Dear Emmanuel,

Thank you for using our Microsoft Community Forum.

You want to save Word files locally by default instead of OneDrive, and there are a number of ways to do this:

1, double-click “This PC” when saving your file, then you can choose the file save path;

2, open Word in File - Options - Save - check the option “Save to Computer by default” in the figure below. The default save path of your file will be changed to the folder path in the text box above.

If you have any other updates about this matter, you can contact us by replying to this post.

Are you accessing OneDrive in your browser? In that case, sometimes you have to use the three dots next to the file name and choose to download the file.

You will find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder in File Explorer.
