How can I use ink to text in MS Word?

I'm re-doing the way I make notes for this next year of university, I'm getting a digital pen and pad and wanted to download my reading materials in Word format and make notes on the document itself.

I've converted the file, I'm able to write on it in pen with my mouse, but cannot find an ink/handwriting to text button anywhere. There's ink to shape and ink to math options but nothing for text. I'm on a desktop PC if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Hi Becky,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I’m glad to offer help.

According to your description, it seems that you don’t see the Draw tab.

If that is the case, please go to Files > Options> Customize Ribbon to enable it.

Reference: Customize the ribbon in Word - Word

If I have any misunderstanding with your situation or there is any progress, please feel free to let me know.

Best Regards,

Arck

Hello, thanks for replying

I do have the draw tab, it looks the same as what you have shown but without the pencil.

Hi Becky,

Thanks for the clarification, would you mind performing an Online Repair to check the outcome?

I did see that but my reading materials are provided in Word file formats. I have opened them in OneNote but it formats it differently and there's been issues with links and videos not working. I'm still looking for the right program to use but I don't think OneNote is it.

Hi Becky,

Have you tried adding the pencils (Drawing Tools) to the ribbon manually? You should be able to find them from the 'All Commands' list.

Arck

Hello,

Yes, I have added drawing tools to the ribbon but no pencil shows up.

I'm not really bothered about that, I'd rather learn how I can find ink to text

Hi Becky,

Could you please take a screenshot of the Draw tab on your side and the Product Information? As shown below, please note to mask your email address:

At present, you can try to use OneNote to convert your ink to text as @Stefan Blom suggested, and you don’t need to open the reading materials in OneNote, you can just copy the converted text from OneNote to Word,

Best Regards,

Arck

One of the things I wanted to do was to highlight text and make notes in the white space of the reading materials themselves, then convert my handwriting to text so that I can ctrl+f keywords. As opposed to re-writing what I've just read.

No problem,
