Free upgrade from Office Home & Student 2007 to Office Home & Student 2010

I bought Office Home and Student 2007 with a free upgrade to my system to Office Home & Student 2010 as soon as it became available. I have just had to reload my entire operating system and am now unable to upgrade my 2007 version to 2010. Is there anyway to resolve this proble?

Hello lizst,

The Office 2101 Technology "Upgrade" is a little bit of a misnomer.  When you took advantage of this program (which expired in Oct 2010), you received a full, not upgrade, license for Office 2010.  Unlike a traditional upgrade license, that means there is no need to have Office 2007 installed on the computer onto which you want to install your Office 2010.  Soin addition to Office 2007, you have a license for Office 2010.

Tha means, unlike a traditional upgrade license, you can still fully use the license for Office 2007 on as many computers as the license originally allowed, AND at the same time fully use the license for Office 2010 on as many computers as the license allows, and they don't have to be the same computers.

Assuming you want to eventually have Office 2010 installed on the computer you just reloaded, you would not have to bother with installing Office 2007, just "Advance to Go" and install Office 2010 straight away.

If you did install Office 2007 before Office 2010, my advice would be to uninstall Office 2007, restart twice, then do a fresh installation of Office H&S 2010.  When installing 2010, choose Custom and deselect the choice to install the Trial of Office Pro 2010 (which adds Access Publisher and Outlook to H&S's Word, Excel, PowerPoint and One Note).

I want to thank you for all the advice, sorry to be so late in replying. I had been talking to Microsoft Office Tech support and they alllowed me to down load a file but was unable to install because I had misplaced the Producy Key which I have now found. I uninstalled Office 2007 as suggested and then activated the file that the tech support had given me and was able to activate office Home & Student 2010 which is now functioning on my system. I have now backed up the copy of Office 2010 on my external hard drive so should be good to go. I did try to do a fresh install from the Office website but was unable to download a copy without entering billing information. Unfortunately Office was not the only software to have a problem with so it is taking some time get my system back to itself after reloading Windows 7 Home Premium.

Thanks again,

Lizst
