file extension not displaying in title bar in excel 2010

this seems like a really dumb question but when I save a file in 2010 the file extension does not display after the file name.  I would like to see the .xlsx in the tile bar after the file name -  on some computers I work on it is showing and on others it is not.  Where do you go to set this
Looked in file Options, and File Save as but can not see it???

thanks,
bkel

Answer

You will find the following if you go to Start>Help and Support and type in "show file extensions"

Show or hide file name extensions

A file name extension is a set of characters added to the end of a file name that determine which program should open it. For more information, see File names and file name extensions: frequently asked questions.

Windows hides file name extensions, but you can choose to make them visible.

To show or hide file name extensions
  1. Click to open Folder Options.

  2. Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, do one of the following:

    • To show file name extensions, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

    • To hide file name extensions, select the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK
