Event 8233 Security-SPP - Microsoft Office activation help

Hello all,

Few weeks ago one of my friends from Colombia purchased a new computer where store personel told her she get Microsoft Office 365 installed and she can send "invitation" to 5 more people who will be able to use that product based on her purchase of the computer/software.

I received that invitation on my email from her, went online and registered with Microsoft account and downloaded and installed MS Office 365 that works neatly on my PC computer.

However it does says that MS Office is unlicenced, and that I have to contact "my corporate network or system administrator for assistance".

Does this means that my friends MS Office installation is unlicenced as well?

Also, on Event Viewer app in Windows I am seeing many events with ID 8233 from Security - SPP source that look like this -

The rules engine reported a failed VL activation attempt.

Reason:0x8007007B

AppId = 0ff1ce15-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663, SkuId = d450596f-894d-49e0-966a-fd39ed4c4c64

Trigger=NetworkAvailable

Sometimes Trigger=TimerEvent, sometimes =UserLogon(1), but same event, same description.

From some research I figure it is some process that runs validation of MS Office, and since it is not licenced it keeps reporting failed VL attempt?

This event shows hourly repetition.

Also I have found another Event with this description -

The description for Event ID 0 from source Office 2016 Licensing Service cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Subscription licensing service failed: -2147467259

Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestion what is happening and what can be done? Does my friend have licenced MS Office package and if he does, should that licence be extended to me as well or no? And if it should, what happens so these processes are reporting failures?

Thank you all in advance for suggestions and answers!

Slavko

Hello all, me again with a small update -

Additionally I have just installed Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Office 365 app.

I tried troubleshooting through it, and after the process feedback was that my Office 365 is already activated.

I have closed all apps, restarted them, and of course - it still says that "product is unlicenced".

So, back to square 1.

Hi Slavko

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Can you launch one of the Office applications such as Word or Excel.

Click File > Accounts
Take a screenshot then post in a reply.

If you are getting an error about product activation, that might be related to the edition you have installed. You mentioned volume licensing, which is specific to the E3/E5.

You shouldn't be getting that error with Office 365 Home.

Hello SlavkoSuvacar, my name is Wendy Jones, I am an Independent Advisor.

First you need to verify if the license is really active, or if you need to pay the subscription again because it has expired, for this

How do you tell me you have an Office 365:
If you have an Office click to run (that is, it is activated with a login in Offfice using user and password): access: https://support.office.com/es-es/article/consul... C3% A1ndo-expira-su-subscripci% C3% B3n-de-office-365-2eb89f06-bd1c-4f57-9269-f1cbab894341 to check if your license is currently active.

Once you have verified that you do not need to renew the service, open any of the Office products (Word, Excle, Outlook etc) and go to:
File \ Office Account
In the panel on the right, you will see the option to activate the license in yellow.

Try activating from there with the product key (if it is MSI) or with username and password (if it is click to run)

In case that the activation of an error continues it will be necessary to pause the antivirus and also perform a cleaning of the registry keys with the following steps:

  Remove product key
1. Locate the one in the path where the "ospp.vbs" file is located, usually it is:
1. C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Microsoft Office \ Office16
2.

Hello Wendy,

Thank you for your interest in assisting with this matter -

I have done the licence status command as per attached screenshot here. What is confusing for me is that over here it states that product is Licensed - and further it also shows there errors that I can find in MS Event Viewer that are described in my original post. So I still remain confused why there processes are executed if the product status is shown Licensed?

I haven't done remaining of the steps you suggested hoping that this screenshot will provide you more information to follow up.

Thank you again,

Just the keys: HCB44 and WFG99 need to be erased. These keys are referred to a previos Office activation.
Please remove these keys with the command: cscript ospp.vbs / unpkey: HCB44

Hi Wendy,

While trying to execute this command I've got this response from the system as shown on this printscreen.

Events are still being run, also nothing changed in Office account tab as well and it still shows information "Activation Required" after I restarted the system.

Your friend might have received Office 365 Home subscription as part of her purchase, but you don't have the applicable edition of Office installed to use it.

Office Professional Plus 2016 is the standalone (perpetual) license version of Office and is not a subscription like Office 365.

If you had a valid subscription to Office 365 Pro Plus (through an organization for instance), it would have transformed that Office 2016 install.

In your case, you need to remove to Office Professional Plus 2016 installation and install the invitation your friend gave you.

Use the fix it tool to completely uninstall Office:

Hello Andre,

This is exactly what I did. I received that invitation from my friend, opened the e-mail and followed that link provided in that invitation e-mail.

I do not understand how come I ended up having Office Professional Plus 2016 version, as my on that e-mail it clearly says Office 365 Home and never during installation process I have seen this other version being mentioned or anything.

On that printscreen I have attached to your previous reply it clearly says - Microsoft Office 365.

Ok, there might be a glitch or an existing license for Office Pro Plus attached to your account.

Remove Office again.

Download the installation for Office 365 from the following link:

http://tb.rg-adguard.net/

Choose the edition of Office like in the following screenshot below.

Download the the image.

Right click the ISO image after downloading, click Open with > File Explorer

Open either the x32 or x64 folder and launch setup. Complete the installation of Office.

Launch any of the Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).

Enter your key to activate.
