Error 0xc0000142 in Office 2016

I have Microsoft Office 2016, which I got as an "Office 365 Personal" subscription. But lately I haven't been able to use my Office apps because when I try to open one up, it just says this...

Image

It's considered an "Application Error (0xc0000142), saying that the application was unable to start correctly. This applies to all of the Office 2016 apps I have. They say that the way to solve this issue is by going into an Office app and selecting "Update Now", but I can't do that because of this error. So what I'm asking is, is there any other way to fix this error? Thanks :)

Hi Jonathon. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

GO to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Microsoft Office > Advanced Options > Modify > Repair. This fixes most problems.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Thanks! That worked. I'm also having the same problem with a file known as "ONENOTEM.EXE", which has that error message every time I log on to Windows, but I'm sure I can try fixing that error the same thing you told me.

That's the OneNote launcher. You can turn it off in all 3 places Startups nest covered in Step 4 of this checklist: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

But have you checked if the Ofc Repair may have covered it yet?

If so Let us know if there's anything else.

If not then you can mark the post which helped most as the Answer, to help others.

You could also try to run the System File Checker tool.
